The Story Behind The Date

It started on a rainy Tuesday in November — a bookshop, a wrong turn, and a conversation that lasted six hours. Neither of us planned it. Neither of us left the same. This June, we are asking everyone we love to witness what that Tuesday became.

Our
Story

From strangers to partners — a record of seven years, three cities, and one very long bookshop conversation.

The Wrong Aisle

A rainy Tuesday in Brooklyn. Sarah was looking for a Neruda collection. Thomas had wandered into the poetry section by accident. They argued about Borges for forty minutes before exchanging numbers.

2019
First Trip Together

Lisbon in March — cobblestones, too much wine, and a conversation about the future on a rooftop that neither of them has ever fully stopped having.

2021
Moving In

A two-bedroom in the West Village. Thomas discovered Sarah's truly alarming cookbook collection. Sarah discovered Thomas irons his t-shirts. They adapted.

The Proposal

Back in the same bookshop on a rainy Tuesday in November. He'd hidden the ring in the Neruda section for three weeks, terrified someone would buy it.

Sarah, on Thomas

He makes coffee too strong and always wins at Scrabble by using obscure two-letter words. He reads the last page of every book first. He remembers everything anyone has ever told him. I have never once felt invisible around him. That, above all, is the thing.

Thomas, on Sarah

She laughs before the punchline lands because she already sees where it's going. She turns any kitchen into a complete disaster and produces something extraordinary from it. She is the most completely herself person I have ever met. I am better at everything because of her proximity to it.

"

We don't have a love story with a neat arc. We have a conversation that's been going for seven years and shows no sign of ending.

— Sarah
"

I had a plan for my life. She made it substantially better by completely ignoring it.

— Thomas
Where it started

7 years in figures

3 countries, 2 apartments, 1 cat (Borges), and approximately 4,000 shared meals.

The ceremony is welcome to all ages. The reception is adults-only from 8 PM onward. We have arranged childcare at the hotel for guests who need it — contact us via the RSVP form.
Can I take photos during the ceremony?
We are having an unplugged ceremony — please keep phones put away so everyone can be present. Our photographer will capture everything beautifully. Photos are very welcome at the reception.
